Wolverhampton City Council
Wolverhampton
City Council are really leading the way forward for local authorities
as the first council to have re-released its Affordable Warmth
Strategy with targets set even higher than previously. The Council
provides approximately £250,000 towards the Affordable Warmth scheme
each year, to target the most vulnerable and needy people in the City.
As well as
funding the Affordable Warmth scheme, the Council also provides assistance
in many other forms for owner occupiers, private tenants, and the
Council's own tenants.
On of
these services is the result of a pilot scheme Wolverhampton City
Council have been running in the North East of the City, which aims to
assist tenants moving properties. All vacant properties in the area
are signed up to have their fuel supplied by Scottish Power, giving
tenants one less thing to think about during the moving in process.
The
Affinity Partnership between Wolverhampton City Council and Scottish
Power also allows the Council to deal with any issues swiftly and
effectively because they already know who they will need to contact at
Scottish Power should any problems arise.
Tenants
are completely free to choose whether they wish to stay with Scottish
Power or change their fuel supplier, though the initial tariff offered
is highly competitive.
Due to the
success of the pilot, plans to roll out the scheme across all vacant
Council properties in Wolverhampton are soon to be implemented.
